TIPS ON HOW TO SHIFT YOUR MINDSET

We've all had that little annoying voice in our heads hold us back from being our best self at one point or another. Don’t allow that negative voice to manipulate you and make you believe that you can’t be successful and achieve anything you want. With the right mindset, you can achieve anything!

Fixed and Growth Mindsets

Many people are finding it challenging to live life to their full personal and professional potential especially with the challenges and stressors of daily life and what's happening in our world today(the pandemic). It's common to experience fears and anxiety day to day when there is so much going on in our daily lives; work, family, finances, health, ect. The problem is that some people are allowing these challenges and stressors of life to get in the way of self-improvement. Limiting beliefs can become sabotaging and can negatively impact your behavior, your health and your life.

The good news is that you don't have to stay on life's hamster wheel. When you move your attention from survival to self-improvement, you can achieve your goals– it may be easier than you think. You can change your life for the better by embracing joy, and we think it's a worthwhile change.

How to transition from a fixed to a growth mindset?

Oftentimes, individuals wait until they're in a dire situation to try to improve their lives, which frequently results in failure. This is not because people are flawed or ineffective - they're in the incorrect state of mind. We all want to live life to the fullest, but we let thoughts and difficulties get in the way. Learning simple strategies for overcoming these challenges can allow us to reach our full potential.

Evaluating our mindset

Do you find that you frequently have these types of thoughts ?

  • I can’t do this, it is impossible

  • I don’t want to do this

  • I wish there was an easier way

  • I will never figure this out

Isn't this something you've heard before? Our brains generate tens of thousands of thoughts per day, many of which are unfortunately negative. Learning to constructively reframe our thinking is the first step toward a growth mindset..

There are more steps we may take on our path to self-improvement after we understand our limiting behaviours and begin reframing our ideas.

Strategies to try when moving to a growth mindset:

  1. Self-examination — How we feel and react to situations is influenced by our mentality. There are a number of bad patterns that we fall into, and there are simple strategies to break them. We can't change a situation unless we change the way we think about it. See the chart below for examples of frequent negative patterns and suggestions about how to change them.

  2. Identify Your Problem Patterns - Determine your personal problem patterns and how to change them. Make a list of how each mentality is holding you back and how you can change them in your daily life. Make a list of your objectives.

  3. Take Action - Once you've set a goal, follow through on it. The most difficult step is to begin something new. Our patterns are appealing to us. Taking risks and stepping outside of our comfort zones are essential for progress. Trying things you've never tried before is a terrific approach to break free from a rut.

  4. Reflection - Consider where you were, where you are, and what abilities you need to accomplish your ultimate objective once you've done the steps above. This can assist in putting the jigsaw pieces together to form the overall picture. It also teaches you that anything worth doing is worth doing badly at first, but that new ways of thinking and growing are achievable with time and practise.

It doesn't have to be difficult to shift your mentality. Here are a few simple ideas to get you started:

  • Believe in yourself and remind yourself how amazing you are on a regular basis.

  • Self-empowerment – remind yourself that you always have options.

  • Remind yourself that anything is possible by believing in the impossible.

  • Look for the positive—remind yourself to use the strategies above to reframe events.

  • Remind yourself that life is a journey by living in the now.

  • Remove doubt by reminding yourself to replace "what ifs" with "the best thing that can happen."

  • Remind yourself to stay true to yourself by being yourself.

  • Be grateful—remind yourself to be glad for what you do have rather than focused on what you don't.

Correcting our mindset:

Having the right mindset means believing that you can develop your most basic abilities through practice, dedication, and hard work. Your only limit is your mind so don’t stand in your own way of achievement. See below for tips on how to shift your mindset to a ‘growth mindset’.

• Learn from criticism

• Embrace any challenge

• Get comfortable with making mistakes

• Have a positive internal dialogue- use positive statements and affirmations

• Believe that effort and hard work makes you stronger
